The One Israel Fund's annual dinner on Sunday evening, December 22. Among the honorees at this year's dinner is our own Rabbi, Rabbi Moshe Portnoy, who is being honored with the Rabbinic Leadership Award. The One Israel Fund is a philanthropic organization which provides humanitarian assistance to the more than 225,000 Jewish men, women and children who live in 150 communities throughout Yehuda, Shomron and Aza. The One Israel Fund has funded projects critical to the safety of these Jews in the YESHA communities, such as the acquisition of armored vans and security systems. Since daily life goes on even in this time of crisis, it also funds projects such as educational programs, day care centers, libraries and playgrounds. You may recall that our Young Israel recently contributed an armored van and bullet proof vests to the YESHA communities through the One Israel Fund. The award is a fitting tribute to our Rabbi who, even as I write these words, is about to leave to again visit the communities of YESHA so as to convey an important reminder, both to them and to us -- that the Jews of YESHA have not and will not be forgotten or abandoned by their fellows Jews in the United States. The award to our Rabbi is a source of pride to our community, and through him a tribute to us as well. |
