Rabbi Moshe Portnoy led our community from 1980 - 2004. Rabbi Portnoy inspired our community and spearheaded the growth of our shul into a vibrant kehila of over 150 families. Our Rav was a key driver in three shul expansions, the building of our Eruv, and the construction of our Mikveh. Rabbi Portnoy was known for his genuine sincerity and dedication to all. He is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Shelly Portnoy, and their five children and many grandchildren.
In 2004 the Young Israel of Plainview dedicated a Torah in honor of Rabbi Portnoy.
In 2005 the Beit Midrash Library was dedicated in memory of Rabbi Portnoy.
