All Day

Dear Friends,

We are all reeling over the tragic murders that took place at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh. One of the great blessings of the United States of America is the freedom afforded to worship according to our beliefs without fear.  This past Shabbat a group of Jews attended prayers and did not return home because of a vicious act of anti-Semitism. Our hearts break for them and their mourning families. Jews and all faiths should be able to practice in safety. Over the next week, we will be collecting funds to assist those families.  Donations can be made by following this link or sending a check made out to the Young Israel of Plainview with Tree of Life written in the memo box. We will, of course, continue to daven for the victims as well and communicate additional events and ways to help.

As you are aware, we had been taking steps to improve the security of our shul.  A committee was formed to utilize the government granted security funds. In the wake of the events in Pittsburgh, we will take steps to expedite the process and have security measures in place for the coming Shabbos preceding those included in the grant that were planned for the coming year.  We have been in touch with the Nassau County Police Department, Second Precinct about security measures, as well. We will continue to communicate with the community as to procedures and keep everyone informed. Please join us for the membership meeting on November 4th at 8pm where our Shul’s security will be the primary subject.

May Hashem comfort the mourners with all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem and bring unity and safety to the Jewish community.
