RECLAIMING THE FUTURE BY REVISITING THE PAST

Synagogue Will Screen Renowned Holocaust Film on Annual Remembrance Day

Plainview, NY, April 18, 2016:  The Young Israel of Plainview has announced their schedule of events to take place on Holocaust Remembrance Day, known as Yom Hashoah. This sacred day will be observed worldwide on Sunday, May 1st. The event will be held at the synagogue’s location, 132 Southern Parkway (enter on Oak Street) in Plainview, and will start at 7:00 pm.

The program will feature the world leading researcher on the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Professor Ken Waltzer. Professor Waltzer will be presenting his broadly well received film titled “Kinderblock 66: Return to Buchenwald”. The film depicts several of the survivors of the notorious Buchenwald Concentration Camp, who endured its horrors as children, returning to its grounds as adults, exactly 65 years to the day after being liberated. These brave survivors include Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel and Rabbi Israel Meir Lau who later became the chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel, amongst several others.

A former Harvard Prize Fellow, Professor Waltzer had a 43 year career at James Madison College, Michigan State University’s highly reputed residential college in public affairs where he served as Dean and Associate Aean. He has lectured in the U.S., Canada, Australia, France, Germany and Israel. He was one of 15 international scholars selected by the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to open the Red Cross International Tracing Service.

Those who wish to attend can RSVP by going to www.yiplainview.com/comedy or emailing comedy@yiplainview.com. Tickets are $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door. Refreshments and desserts will be served.
