A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

Annual Holocaust Remembrance Event to be Exceptionally Moving

Plainview, NY, April 8, 2014:  The Young Israel of Plainview and the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County present a special program for Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) featuring a special screening of Nicky’s Family, a poignant and moving film about the nearly forgotten story of Nicholas Winton, an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II. The film will be followed by special Guest Speaker, Hanna Slome, one of the rescued children from Nicky’s Family, who will share her experience with the audience.

This year’s local event will be held on Sunday, April 27th at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County’s Plainview Campus, located at 25 Country Drive. The program will start at 6:45 pm.

The New York Times labeled the film “an enthralling documentary”, and it has generated widespread interest and garnered international acclaim, winning over 30 prestigious cinematographic awards. The film’s central character, Sir Nicolas Winton, having been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, never spoke about his altruistic deed. The film explores how his exploits were discovered by chance, and presents a central theme of the triumph of kindness at a time when it is needed most.

Those who wish to attend are asked to kindly RSVP by April 13th by either emailing officemanager@yiplainview.com or calling (516) 433-4811. All are welcome. Suggested donations are $10 per person, $18 per couple and $50 per family/sponsorship. Donations will go towards the cost of the event.

Refreshments will be served.
