Synagogue Announces It Will Honor Local Israeli Defense Forces Member Along With Others

Plainview, NY, January 15 2015:  The Young Israel of Plainview announced today they have chosen to recognize several individuals at their 43rd Annual Testimonial Dinner. Shira and Marc Ornstein will receive the Chaverim Ne’emanim Award, Atara and Daniel Marzouk will receive the Young Leadership Award and the Guest of Honor will be Eric Rosenn. A solider in the Israeli Defense Forces who is from Long Island. The dinner, which historically has served to showcase exceptional individuals, has proven to be an enthralling evening, bringing together both individual attendees and the community as a whole in celebration of the accomplishments of the honorees. The event will be held on Saturday, February 28th, at 8:00 p.m. and will take place at Crest Hollow Country Club, located at 8325 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, New York.

Eric Rosenn belongs to a select group of individuals known as Lone Soldiers. Unlike Israeli citizens who are mandatorily conscripted to enlist in the army, Lone Soldiers choose out of their own volition to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces, known as the IDF. Having grown up in Woodbury, New York, Eric was a Pre-Med student when he put his professional career on hold to follow his heart and join the IDF. A paratrooper, during his enlistment, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. Upon his discharge from the IDF, Eric looks forward to resuming his schooling in medical sciences.

Shira and Marc Ornstein have been leading by example in the Plainview community for many years. Over time, they have each served in a variety of roles for the betterment of both the Young Israel of Plainview and the Greater Long Island area as well. Marc is the President and owner of MAG Technical Resources, Inc. and Shira is the Educational Director of the East Meadow Jewish Center and, additionally, a teacher at Temple Sinai in Roslyn.

Atara and Daniel Marzouk have exhibited a commitment to taking a leading role in their community in a manner that belies their age as much as it inspires others. They have taken it upon themselves to be involved in a number of different undertakings that have proven to be decidedly beneficial for the Young Israel of Plainview in addition to other worthy organizations. Daniel is a vice president at Edward C. Hall and Co., an insurance agency located in Centerport, New York. Atara recently graduated with high honors form Adelphi University’s School of Nursing and is actively pursuing a career in Nursing.

Larry Cohn, Dinner Committee Co-Chairman, put the honoree selections in perspective saying “when one considers the values and principles that we as a society hold dear, tenants that include humanity, selflessness and valor, we see that these characteristics are not relegated merely to one arena; rather, they can be found in both the day-to-day lives of our community, as exhibited in exemplary fashion by Shira & Marc Ornstein and Atara and Daniel Marzouk and, moreover, they are on full display on the battlefield as well. Demonstrated by the brave men and women of the Israeli Defense Forces and epitomized beautifully by Eric Rosenn. Mazel Tov and congratulations to all of tonight’s honorees.”
